Travelling from the Boryspil Airport and Main Railway Station to the city of Kyiv

1.                  Airport: find a conference representative

After going through passport and customs control you go thorough a barrier and see lots of people who meet passengers. Please follow directions at the scheme below for about 30 steps towards a glass wall and then turn to the right to the rotating door. Before the door you will see a conference representative (a young man or a girl in a bright yellow T-shirt with a conference badge or a sign).

2.            Change some money to Ukrainian currency

Next step is to change some money to get to your hotel. We would recommend you to change just $10 or 10 Euro as exchange rate at the airport is lower than in the city (currently 5.15 hryvnyas/$1 compared to 5.30 hryvnyas/$1 in the city). The exchange booth operates round the clock. No commission is charged. Please bring some cash in small bills, as here you will not be able to cash travel checks or credit cards.

3.            Get into the shuttle bus to the city centre (to Railway Station)

The conference representative will help you to get into a shuttle bus going to the railway station. Take care as not all buses go there! The fare is 10 hryvnyas=$1.9, luggage included. Travel from the airport to the railway station takes 40-60 minutes depending on the traffic.

If you do not want to go by bus but to take a taxi to your hotel directly from the airport, then the conference representative will help you to find a taxi. There will be lot of offers – but the reasonable fare to any place in the city centre is 80-100 hryvnyas (equivalent of $US 15-17), irrespective of the number of people (up to 3 people per car). If you need a receipt for you taxi fare, take care to choose an official taxi with the cash register that produces receipts.

If there are larger groups of participants arriving at the same time to Boryspil airport then conference representatives will try to find minibuses that would take participants directly to their hotels.

4.            Arrive to the railway station (Southern Entrance) and meet another conference representative there.

Most of people in the bus will leave it here. Leave the bus and find a conference representative (a young man or a girl in a bright yellow T-shirt with a conference badge or a sign). See below the photo of the Southern Entrance of the new railway station (there is a church opposite this railway station entrance):

5.            A conference representative will help you to find a taxi to your hotel.

If you do not have hryvnyas on hand the conference representative will derect you the currency exchange booth. Reasonable taxi fare is around 10 hryvnyas to all hotels in our list. Do your best to get a 10-hryvnya bill at the exchange booth or as a change in the bus, as taxi drivers may have no change. Fare should be same 10 hryvnyas irrespective of the number of persons (up to 3 people per car). Leave negotiation to the conference representative - taxi drivers try to charge more from foreigners who do not speak local language.

Another option is metro (Vokzalna metro station at the railway station - 10minute walk from the Southern Entrance):

6.         Backup option - if you failed to find a conference representative

We will have conference representatives at the airport and railway station at all times when participants are expected to arrive. We will monitor plane arrivals (when we know flight numbers) and wait until the plane arrives. This is the reason why we asked for your arrival time.

If there is no conference representative at the indicated place, please wait for some time - he or she may be assisting another participant; however, they will wait at the same place for everybody arriving by the same flight.

Anyway, if you decide to go to the city on your own - we would not advise to take a taxi as they charge an unreasonable fare (no receipt), and shuttle buses are regular and reliable.

Each participant who reserved accommodation will be sent directions how to get there in English and Ukrainian (Russian). We advise you to print these directions and show to taxi drivers and people who may assist you in getting there.

7.         If you arrive to Kyiv by train

Conference representatives (look for bright yellow T-shirts) will be at the Southern entrance, near airport shuttle bus stop. They will assist you with changing some money and getting a taxi to your hotel. Taxi fare is around 10 hryvnyas. We would recommend you to change just $5-10 or 5-10 Euro as exchange rate at the railway station is lower than in the city. Bring small bills with you (not coins as you will not be able to exchange coins).

There are no signs in English around the railway station - so when you arrive, look for glass-covered crossing above the railway lines (not underground). Go up there, look out of the window - and then you see a clock tower from one of the windows (quite close) - go to the left if you face the tower. You will walk along the passage and come to the Southern Entrance. Go out of the building and look for a conference representative near the airport bus stop (on the right from the building).

Please mind that there are stairs up (no moving stars) and no luggage trolleys at the railway station, so take only luggage that you would be able to handle if you plan to arrive by train.

·                    If you can travel by metro on your own (there are no signs in English), then go to the main entrance that is closer to the metro (to get to the metro station go to the clock tower - the metro station is nearby). Nearest station to your hotel will be shown in the directions that will be sent to every participant (see scheme of metro here).

·                    If you prefer a taxi then go to the Southern Entrance - it will be much cheaper from there than from the main entrance.

8.         How to reach to some hotels from Vokzalna metro or walking

Click on the name of hotel

-         hotelZnannya” (walking)

-         hotelExpress” (walking)

There is no reasonable direct public to these hotels, so walking may be the best option (20-25 minutes). A taxi to any of these hotels from the railway station (from the main entrance) should cost no more than 5 (five) hryvnyas. If you take a taxi from the railway station to Express hotel, request taking you directly to the hotel entrance (not to the opposite side of Shevchenko Boulevard).
