Oleksandr Mykolayovych Sharkovsky (07.12.1936 – 21.11.2022)
With deep sadness we announce that today, November 21, 2022, at the age of 85, the outstanding Ukrainian mathematician, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Oleksandr Mykolayovych Sharkovsky passed away.
The formation and development of chaotic dynamics are deeply related with the name of O.M. Sharkovsky. The Sharkovskii's theorem is given in almost every modern monograph on the theory of dynamical systems. The new direction in the theory of dynamic systems - combinatorial dynamics - is associated with this theorem. Research on infinite-dimensional dynamical systems and nonlinear boundary value problems of mathematical physics by O.M. Sharkovsky allowed him to propose a concept of "ideal turbulence" - a new mathematical phenomenon in deterministic systems, which simulates the most complex fundamental properties in time and space turbulence. O.M. Sharkovsky is a laureate of the State prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, a laureate of prizes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine named after M.M. Bogolyubov, M.O. Lavrentiev and Yu.O. Mitropolskyi, honorary doctor of the Silesian University in Opava (Czech Republic).
Bright memory of the academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Mykolayovych Sharkovsky will be preserved in the hearts of all who knew him. We express our sincere condolences to relatives and colleagues of Oleksandr Mykolayovych in connection with this great loss.
